Abstract
Liquefied gas lighter comprising a shut off valve (9, 11) of the gas supply conduit (7) which is activated into a shut off position by a return resilient member (25). This resilient member is such that its stiffness increases suddenly when passing from the shut off position of the valve to its opening position.
Description
Briquet à gaz. Gas lighter.
The present invention relates to a liquefied gas lighter and, more particularly, a valve for shutting off the gas stream delivered by this lighter. Lighters are known in which the shutter valve consists of a valve, sometimes constituted by the lighter's burner, provided with a shutter seal, and a valve seat, at the base of which is located l arrival of the gas, means are provided for controlling the movement of the valve and comprise, for example, a control member, linked to this valve, and an elastic element, constituted most of the time by a spring, which biases the member and, through it, the valve.
The function of this elastic element is twofold: On the one hand, it closes the valve, keeping the valve applied to its seat with a constant, predetermined force. In most lighters, however, the parts constituting the valve may exhibit dimensional variations, either due to manufacturing tolerances, or as a result of variations in external conditions (temperature, humidity, etc.). These dimensional variations have the effect of modifying the deformation ability of the elastic element and, consequently, its sealing force and, to minimize these variations, it is therefore desirable that the stiffness of the elastic element is low. .
On the other hand, the elastic element acts as a return member bringing the valve from its open position to its closed position, when the control member is no longer requested by the user. For this purpose, it must overcome the friction forces opposing the movement of the valve, which implies a significant restoring force. For a given deformation of the spring, this restoring force is therefore all the greater the higher the stiffness of the spring. These two functions of the elastic element therefore call for opposite spring stiffnesses. Also, the devices for controlling the valve of gas lighters of a known type generally satisfy only one or the other of these conditions. In other words: either their stiffness is sufficiently low. So that the dimensional variations of the elements constituting the device have little influence on the shutter force and, in this case, their stiffness is insufficient to ensure a recall. correct device in the closed position; or else their stiffness is sufficient to correctly return the valve, but, then, the dimensional variations of the elements will have a significant influence on the shutter force. Elastic elements have already been proposed for shutter valve for lighters, the stiffness of which increases continuously during the displacement of the valve, from its shutter position to its open position. However, if an element with continuous stiffness variation can have, in the closed position, a sufficiently low stiffness and, in the open position, a sufficiently high restoring force, it has the disadvantage of having, in the vicinity of the shutter zone, a higher stiffness than a spring of constant stiffness, having the same stiffness in the closed position. As a result, the possible dimensional variations of the constituent elements of the shutter valve will have a greater influence on the shutter force of the valve.
The present invention aims to combine the advantages of springs with constant stiffness and elastic elements with continuous variation in stiffness, by eliminating the drawbacks specific to each of these two types of member.
To this end, the invention relates to a liquefied gas lighter comprising a gas inlet on which is arranged a valve provided with an elastic element, which maintains it in the closed position and ensures its recall from the open position to the closed position, this lighter being characterized in that said elastic element has a stiffness which passes discontinuously from a first given constant value to a second constant value given, greater than the first, when the valve passes from the closed position to the open position.
In the vicinity of the shutter position, the stiffness of the elastic element is thus equal to the minimum stiffness chosen for the shutter and the possible dimensional variations of the elements constituting the valve have a minimal influence on the shutter force. In the open position, on the other hand, the elastic element will, like a spring with variation of continuous stiffness, have sufficient stiffness, giving it a sufficiently high restoring force.
According to the invention, the elastic element may consist of a spring, the useful length of which will be varied during use, for example by equipping it with a stop, which, during compression, will come in contact with a fixed stop secured to the body of the lighter. It will also be possible to have a stop on the control member, which, during its actuation, will come into contact with the spring.
Sur ces dessins:The accompanying drawings illustrate these various embodiments of the invention. In these drawings:

La figure 3 est une vue en perspective éclatée de la pédale de commande et du ressort d' obturation du briquet de la figure 1 ;
Figure 3 is an exploded perspective view of the control pedal and the lighter shutter spring of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a cross section, similar to Figure 1, of another embodiment.
La partie de cette pédale disposée entre les tétons 15 et l'extrémité que sollicite l'utilisateur du briquet est pourvue latéralement, sur sa portion inférieure, de deux parties en saillie 21.Figures 1, 2 and 3 show a lighter, the upper face of the body 1 is pierced with a cylindrical housing 3. whose bottom is provided with a valve seat 5, at the base of which the gas arrives, through a channel 7. A burner 9 is slidably mounted in the housing 3. The upstream end of this burner is provided with a sealing joint 11. A shutter control pedal 13 is pivotally mounted around two studs 15. The one end of this pedal 13 has two teeth 17, which engage in a circular groove 19 provided on the burner 9. The part of this pedal disposed between the pins 15 and the end which the user of the lighter requests is provided laterally, on its lower portion, of two projecting parts 21.
A bending spring 25 (leaf spring) bent in a U, bears, on the one hand, on the upper face of the lighter body and, on the other hand, on the lower face of the control pedal 13. The branch lower of this spring is provided with two lateral extensions 27, on which the parts 21 of the pedal 13 respectively bear. When the user exerts no force on this pedal 13, the spring 25 tends to rotate it in the direction arrow 23 and move the burner down. The valve seal 11 is thus applied against the valve seat 5 and the valve is in the closed position.
When the user presses on the pedal 13 in the direction of the arrow 29, against the spring 25, this pedal pivots around the pins 15. The parts 21 are lowered, come into contact with the part 27 and exert a additional stress on spring 25, along line AA. Under the effect of this constraint, its stiffness increases suddenly. So when the pedal 13 is fully depressed, which corresponds to the the shutter valve open position, the spring stiffness is maximum and the restoring force towards the valve shutter position is also maximum. On the other hand, when the user releases the pedal 13, the spring 25 moves it in the opposite direction to the arrow 23 and, when the stress exerted by the stops 21 on the spring 25 ceases, the stiffness of the spring abruptly decreases and remains at its minimum value, when the valve reaches its closed position. In the embodiment of FIG. 4, the closing spring 4-0 is a helical compression spring, housed in a well 42 of the upper face of the body 44 of the lighter, the bottom of which is provided with a part in projection forming a stop 46. The spring 40 bears, on the one hand, on the bottom of the well 42 and, on the other hand, on the bottom of a housing 48 provided in the control pedal 47. A stop 49 is arranged inside the spring 40 and is integral with the latter.
Lorsque l'utilisateur enfonce la pédale 47 et comprime le ressort 40, la butée 49 arrive à un moment donné en contact avec la butée 46.When the user depresses the pedal 47 and compresses the spring 40, the stop 49 arrives at a given moment in contact with the stop 46.
From this moment, the part of the spring between the bottom of the well 42 and the stop 49 no longer participates in the elasticity of the spring. The useful length thereof has therefore decreased and, as a result, its stiffness has increased. Under these conditions, the spring 40 has, in the open position, a high stiffness, which gives it a sufficient return force to bring the burner into the closed position, and a lower stiffness, that is to say greater flexibility, when the burner is in the closed position, which allows it to compensate for the dimensional variations in the parts constituting the valve.
