IMPROVEMENT IN MlLK-CANS.-
-Specification forming rnrtot Letters Pa" -nt No. 107,- 1, dated September 20, 1570; reissue No. 5.851,
'- dated April 28, 1874; application tiled February 10, 1%74.
lnvisiox ii.
To all whom it: may comer:
lie it known that; I, JOHN (J. MLLLIHAN, ol' Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State ol' I NewYork, have invented a new and useful Improvement in lllillg-Uans; and I do hereby declareithat the following is a full, eiear,.a1n.l exact description of the same, reference being had to the aeeonn'ianying draw-'ing, forming a part of this specification.
The invention relates to a. novel mode of constructing milk-cans, so that they can be more conveniently and thoroughly cleaned,'
thus, notvonly saving labor, but preventing a subsequent supply of milk from being deteriorated by the spoiled portions of the former contents which have adhered to the joints oi the can.
The drawing is a vertical sta-t'ional elevation of my improved milk-can.
A represents the upper section of can, com prising the neck, breast, and preferably about one-halt" oi the cylinder; and ii, the-lowerseetion, embracing the bottom and a moiety of the cylinder. U is an outward corrugation. or
ring-stop upon the .upper edge of section 1 while 1) is a flange on the lower edge oi section A, set out to encircle and lit down o 'er't-he edge of I as tiu' as the corrugation.
This' gives me but: one single joint in the whole can, and that one prelcrably at the middle, where it can be reached by hand with great l'acility, and lrom whence every vestige of the. milk that has adhered to the can from its ['ormer contents can be eradicated without particular.pains or attention. Qt course the same idea would be embodied, whether the joint were exan-ily at the middle or at some ap u'oximate point, the invention consisting essentially ot a two-part can, horizontally and singly jointed, so as to bring thejointwithin easy reach ol the hand.
The particulurjoint which 1 term is apret'erable one; but, in no way concerns the principle oi my present invention.
The two sections may be struck up or shaped by stamps and dies, or brought into the terms described in any suitable manner.
Having thus described my invention, what i claim as new is-- As an artiele ot' manulaeture, a milk-can made in two parts, and having said parts jointed together on a. horizontal plane, passing therethrongh at or near the middle of body, is and to: the purpose spei-ilied.
