Description

Oct. 14, 1958 MEILLAND Plant Pat. 1,760
ROSE PLANT Filed Feb. 26, 1958 Quantity of bloom: Abundant, outdoors.
United ate, Pawfl ROSE PLANT Francis Meilland, Cap dAntibes, Alpes Maritimes, France, assignorto The Collard-Pyle Company, .We Grove, Pa., acorporation of Pennsylvania Application February 26, 1958, Serial No. 717,798 1 (Cl. 47-61) The presentinvention relates to a new and distinct variety of rose plant of the hybrid tea class, which was originated byme by, crossing an unnamed and unpatented seedling derived from Peace (U. S.Plant Patent No.
591) x Floradora (unpatented) with the variety Grandmere Jenny (U. S. Plant Patent No. 1,148).
The primary objective of this breeding was to produce anew rose variety which combines the most desirable characteristics of its parents. This objectivejwas fully achieved, along withother improvements, as evidenced by the following uniquecombination of characteristics in the new variety which distinguish'it from its parents, as
well as from all other varieties .of which I am aware: (1)'Excellent vigor and habit of the plant;
(2) Good floriferousness;
(3) Excellent formofthe blooms; an
(4) A distinctive Iridescent Vermilion general color tonality of the opening blooms, which changes to Delft Rose color in the mature blooms.
Asexual reproduction of my new variety by budding, as performed in France and at West Grove, Pennsylvania, U. S. A., shows that the foregoing characteristics and distinctions come true to form and are established and transmitted through succeeding propagations.
The accompanying drawing shows typical specimens of the vegetativegrowth and flowers of my new variety in different stages of development and as depicted in color as nearly true as it is reasonably possible to make the same in a color illustration of this character.
The following is a detailed description of my new variety, with color terminology in accordance with the Horticultural Color Chart of the British Color Council, except where general color terms of ordinary dictionary significance are obvious: 1 Type: Hardy; bush; outdoor; seedling; for cut flowers and for garden decoration.
