Abstract
A new and distinct garden-type Chrysanthemum cultivar is disclosed, characterized by the presence of dark yellow ray florets, yellow disk florets, and a free branching, mounding growth habit. The plant naturally blooms in the first two weeks of September.
Description
Latin name of the genus and species Chrysanthemum morifolium.
Variety denomination: ‘Gedi Three Gel’.
The new cultivar ‘Gedi Three Gel’ is a product of hybridization of a female parent Chrysanthemum plant ‘95 150 02’ (undistributed, unpatented seedling) and a male parent Chrysanthemum plant variety ‘Orka’ (undistributed, unpatented in US). The new cultivar was discovered and selected by Dirk Pieters in Oostniewkerke, Belgium, in September, 1999.
Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar ‘Gedi Three Gel’ by terminal cuttings and tissue culture was performed in Oxnard, Calif. and has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type on successive generations.
The cultivar ‘Gedi Three Gel’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.
The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘Gedi Three Gel’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘Gedi Three Gel’ as a new and distinct Chrysanthemum cultivar:

- 2. Mounding growth habit.
- 3. Free branching habit.
- 4. Average vigor.
- 5. Naturally blooming beginning the first two weeks in September.
Plants of the new cultivar ‘Gedi Three Gel’ are similar to plants of the female parent ‘95 150 02’ in most horticultural characteristics, however plants of the new cultivar have a darker yelow ray florets and a wider diameter flower than plants of the female parent variety. Further, the plants of the new cultivar ‘Gedi Three Gel’ have flowers that last approximately six days longer than the flowers of the female parent. The plants of the new cultivar ‘Gedi Three Gel’ are shorter than the plants of the female parent.

The accompanying photograph in FIG. 1 illustrates in full color a typical plant of ‘Gedi Three Gel’ grown in a 2 gallon container. One cutting was used in the pot. The colors are as nearly true as is reasonably possible in a color representation of this type.
In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe ‘Gedi Three Gel’ plants grown in a greenhouse in Oxnard, Calif., during the month of September, 2003. The growing temperature ranged from about 12° C. to 15° C. at night to about 12° C. to 20° C. during the day. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical flowering types, and are believed to apply to plants of the variety grown under similar conditions of soil and climate elsewhere:
- Time to rooting: 7 to 14 days at approximately 21° C.
- Root description: Fine, fibrous.
- Commercial classification: Garden Chrysanthemum.
- Growth habit: Mounding herbaceous perennial.
- Height: Approxiately 25.5 cm.
- Plant spread: Approximately 28 cm.
- Growth rate: Moderate.
- Branching characteristics: Free branching.
- Length of lateral branches: Approximately 20 cm.
- Number of leaves per lateral branch: Approximately 17.
- Age of plant described: Approximately 140 days from a rooted cutting.

With adequate water plants are hardy to a high temperature of 45° C.
- Fruit/seed production: Commercially, this plant is not used or observed in a stage wherein seeds would be produced. Therefore, seed production has not been observed.

1. A new and distinct cultivar of Chrysanthemum plant named ‘Gedi Three Gel’ as herein illustrated and described.
