Abstract

A new plant variety of Chrysanthemum producing yellow decorative-type flowers.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is directed to a new and distinct variety of Chrysanthemum Dendranthema grandiflora. The varietal denomination of the new Chrysanthemum is ‘TRUE YELLOW AT’.
The new variety was a naturally occurring whole plant mutation which originated in a controlled cultivated planting of the variety known as ‘About Time’ (Application Ser. No. 08/316,947, abandoned). ‘True Yellow AT’ has been asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Ventura County, Calif. and the distinguishing characteristics are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
‘True Yellow AT’ is a pot-type Chrysanthemum plant variety having a flat capitulum form, and producing yellow decorative-type flowers.
COMPARISON WITH PARENT
The new variety produces yellow flowers whereas the parent ‘About Time’ produces coral pink flowers.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATION
The accompanying photograph shows typical specimen of the plant and flowers of the new variety with colors being as nearly true as possible with illustrations of this type.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT
The following description of the new variety is of specimens grown in a greenhouse in Ventura County, Calif. in the month of April. ‘True Yellow AT’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary with variations in the environment such as temperature, light intensity, day length and cultural conditions. The color designations herein are from The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart except where general terms are used.
To produce a commercial product the plants may be pinched once about ten days after planting. It has been observed that the shelf life of ‘True Yellow AT’ is about 20 days and a response time of about 8.5 weeks. One application of growth retardant B9 at about 2500 ppm was used with plants described. Useful growing conditions include night temperatures of about 18°-20° C., day temperatures of about 20 -30° C.
