Abstract

A new variety of Chrysanthemum producing small yellow daisy-type flowers with yellow ray florets.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention is directed to a new and distinct variety of Chrysanthemum botanically classified as Dendranthema grandiflora. The varietal denomination of the new Chrysanthemum is `GEDI YP`.
The new variety was discovered as a natural branch mutation of the variety `Pidoul` (U.S. Plant Pat. No. 10,218) in Staden, Belgium. The new variety has been asexually reproduced by vegetative cuttings in Ventura County, Calif. and the distinguishing characteristics are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
`GEDI YP` is a Chrysanthemum plant variety that produces a large number of small, yellow daisy-type flowers.
COMPARISON WITH PARENT
The new variety differs from its parent in having flowers with yellow ray florets whereas the ray florets of `Pidoul` are white.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ILLUSTRATION
The accompanying photograph shows a typical speciman of the new variety with colors being as nearly true as possible with illustrations of this type.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PLANT
the following description of the new variety is of specimens grown in a greenhouse in Ventura County, Calif. in the month of April. `GEDI YP` has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary with variations in the environment such as temperature, light intensity, day length and cultural conditions. the color desgnations herein are general terms are used.
To produce a commercial product the plants may be pinched once about ten days after planting, with center bud removed. No growth regulator was used with plants described. Shelf life of `GEDI YP` is about 21 days with the response time of about 7 weeks. Desirable growing conditions include average night temperatures of about 62°-64° F and day temperatures of about 70°-75° F and about 2,000-5,000 foot-candles of light.
