DESIGN FOR ORNAMENTATION OF GLASSWARE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 9,647, dated November 21, 1876; application filed February 26, 1876. [Term of Patent 14 yearaj To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, Joan E. HOBBS, of Wheeling, county of Ohio, State of West Virginia, have invented or discovered a new and useful Design for Ornamentation of Glassware; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, concise, and exact description thereof, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification.
My improved design for glassware consists of a bowl, I), having generally the figure of an inverted truncated cone, but with an outwardly-llaring base, 0, at the smaller end of the cone, and legs or feet having on the exterior face thereof a central figure, a, surrounded or flanked by any desired style of ornamentation. This central figure and ornamental work are arranged partly on and partly below the base or lower part of the article to which it is to be applied, so as to constitute an ornamentation of both foot and base. This ornamentation by flntings and scroll or shell Work, as represented at d, extends up onto the face of the bowl. The general contour of the artiole immediately at or above the larger end of cone is cylindrical, as represented. The style of cover, top, or mouth, will vary with the use or purpose of the articlea sugar-bowl requiring a cover, a spoon-holder none, and a pitcher a mouth difl'ering from both.
I claim as my improved design- I In bowled glassware, the design of inverted truncated cone terminating at its lower end in a flaring base, with ornamental figure a on the feet lapping onto the base, and by fluting, scroll, or shell work reaching onto the bowl, substantially as described and shown.
