Patented Sap. 24, 187-2.
UNITED STATES PATENT QFFIGE.
GUSTAVUS A. BROWN, OF FARMINGTON, MICHIGAN.
DESIGN FOR A TO! srsAm-sneinz.
Specification forming part 'of Design No. 6,149 dated September 24, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Gnsuvos A. Bnown, of Farmington, in the county of Oakland and State of Michigan, have invented a Design for a Glass Engine and Boiler, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design is fully represented in the accompanying photographic illustration, to which reference is made.
The object of this design is to enable the teacher or lecturer to illustrate the theory of the steam-engine, both in the condensing and noii-condensing form.
A represents a rectangular box, which forms a bed-piece for a. metallic skeleton gallowsfra-me, B, for the beam 0 of the engine, of which 1) is the cylinder; E, the side pipe or steam-chest, cylindrical in cross-section; K, the exhaust drum, connected at top and bottom with the steam-chest, and at the bottom with the condenser F, with a valve, a, be- I tween them. A valve, 6 at the top of the exboost-drum, when opene allows the exhaust steam to escape into the atmosphere. G is the air-pump, and H is the cold-water-injection pump, provided with the air-chamber H.
The cylinder, steam-chest exhaust-drum, condenser, and pumps are oi glass with metallic heads, as is also the boiler I, for the purpose of illustrating the theory of steam in its generation and utilization.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a combined glass and metal lic engine, as shown and set forth.
GUSTAVUS A. BROWN.
