[ULSIGN-J Table UNITED STATES WILLIAM H. GEOFF, OF LAWRENGEBURG, INDIANA.
DESIGN FOR A TABLE.
Specification forming part of Design No. 5,473, dated January 16, 1872.
SPECIFIGATION.
I, WILLIAM H. GEOFF, of Lawrenceburg, in the county of Dearborn and State of Indiana, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Table, of which the following is a specification:
My design consists of a stand or table, as represented in the drawing, having on its top or lid the squares for a game of chess or checkers, and on the interior the points for the game of backgammon, together with a compartment for containing the chess-men, and also on the reverse side of the lid a second set of squares for chess or checkers, to be used for that game when the table is opened for the play of backgammon, so that both games may be played at the same time by four persons when the table is open, or the single game of chess or checkers when the lid is closed.
Figure 1 is a plan view of the top of my improved table. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same open, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the lid open.
A is the top or receptacle of the table, which is provided with three compartments, two of which are pointed and ornamented as required for the game of backgammon, while the third or smaller one is designed to contain the chess men when npt in use. B is the lid or cover, which is hinged to the receptacle A, and hnsa chess or checker-board on its inner and outer sides. When the table is open the top or cover is supported in a level position by the pivoted arm f, which swings from the side of the table for that purpose.
I claim as my invention- The design for a table for ohess, backga1nmon, and checkers, as shown and described.
111 witness whereof I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
