DESIGN FOR CARPET.

Specification forming part of Design No. 5,047, dated June 27, 1871.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, JOHN MAGEE, of New York city, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design fora Car pet; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.

The photograph represents a face view of my design, showing about one-fourth of each figure.

This invention relates to four features of ornamental design of woven or printed carpet orother fabric; and consists: 1st,in anew dcsignof crossshapedcenter-piece. 2d,in a new design of an 00- tagonal center-piece. 3d, in a new design for a scroll-beltof the latter; a-nd,finally, in a new general arrangement of figures for producing the entire design of the fabric.

In the phomgraph, A represents one-fourth part of one, and B one-fourth part of the other, form of center-piece used in my design. The center-piece A is made in form of a Greek cross, with borders and central decorations, as shown. The other center-piece B is formed by drawing its sides parallel to those of the cross, and to those of the small square O put opposite each end of the cross. The form of the figure B is thereby an irregular octagon. The scroll-belt D surrounding the figure B is novel,in form, and adds to the beauty of design. It can with good effect be applied to other figures or designs.

I claim as my invention The design of the carpet, figure A, as shown. The design of the center-figure B, as shown. The design of the scroll-belt D, as shown. The design for a carpet, as shown.
