Description

n e EX 09532 OR o 4.831 QN E. Q. MOORE. ISPOON AND FORK HANDLE. No. 4,831. Patented Apr. 18, 1871.
m/ mm amen %iatz-5 flaunt affirm EDWARD O. MOORE, OF YONKERS, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO TIFFANY & 00., OF NEW YORK CITY.
Design No. 4,831, dated April 18, 1871.
DESIGN FOR A SPOON OR FORK-HANDLE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, EDWARD O. MOORE, of Yonkers, Westchester county, State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Handles of Spoons and Forks, of which the following is a specification.
My design consists of features clearly set forth in the accompanying illustration and following description.
Figure 1 is a view of theupper side or front of the handle of spoon or fork.
Figure 2, of the under side or back part of the same.
The handle at the shank is straight until, at point a, it expands into an oval form. The shank or straight part is reeded. Near the bowlis a small leaf.
At point a, on each side, the outside reed or raised edge opens husk-like, and from itthe raised edge is continued around the upper part of the spoon or fork.
The inner reeds on the shank at or near point a,
coinciding with the form of the handle, spread outinto branches and twigs, with leaves, buds, and flowers of a peculiar kind. Among these branches, twigs, and flowers is a bird.
The back of the handle is substantially the same design. Instead of the bird a space is left uncovered by the design for the purpose of engraving name or crest, and where the shank expands into the spoon or fork b the small leaf ornament is omitted, the reeds terminating in a circular form with a frill of leaves.
This pattern or design is intended to be varied on each size handle of the spoon or fork, 850., both on the front and back of the same-that is to say, the arrangement of twigs, branches, buds, flowers, and the kinds and positions of birds, will be varied, yet all of essentially the same design and covered by this description.
Figures 3 and 4 is a design for a handle of a smaller size.
0 laim.
I claim- The design for handles of spoons and forks, substantially as described and illustrated by the accompanying drawing.
EDWVARD O. MOORE.
