Description

)Gwop 1mm MAB 21 1811 @sind @da 4EDWIN S. WARREN, 0F SPRINGFIELD,'MASSACHUSETTS Design No. 4,730, dated March 21, 1871.
DESIGN FOR A swonn.
The Schedule referred to lx1 these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
I, EDWIN S. WARREN, of Sprngeld, Hampden county, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Sword for Knights of Pythias, of which the following is a speciiicat-ion.
The nature of my design is as follows:
Upon the top plate of the scabbard, in bas-relief, stands the full-length figure of a knight in complete armor, with drawn sword in one hand, and upon the other arm a shield having upon its face the letters F C B.
The bottom plate has etched or cut upon it two pole-axes, crossed.
The end of the plate forming the extreme end of the scabbard I make in the shape of a spear-point. These are shown in Figure I of the drawing, and the side of the scabbard thus embellished is the reverse of that coming next the wearer.
In Figure II the side of the sword is shown corresponding to the side of the scabbard described.
The hilt is made of scrolls of leaves. Between the inside ends of the scrolls is the tield bearing the letters K P. Beneath this, upon aplate having ornamented edges, is a shield having a helmet resting upon two battle-axes, crossed upon said shield, the whole surmounted by the raised letters F C B.
On the blade, upon a clouded surface, is to be written the name of the owner of the sword, which label is therefore variable.
I do not claim as part of my design the helmet surmountiug the handle of the sword.
Figure III shows the reverse side of the sword, in which, between the ends of the scrolls forming the guard or hilt, is a shield with blank surface, and upon the blade, on a clouded surface, are the words Knights of Pythias.
Claim.
What I claim is- A design for sword, substantially as shown.
