Description

etant States C@sind (titte,
CHARLES F. ANNAN, OF BOSTON, ASSIGNCR TO HIMSELF AND HERBERT S. MERRILL, CF CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
Design No. 4,503, dated December 13, 1870.
DESIGN FOR A FRAME FOR A PAPER-BAG MACHINE.
The Schedule referred to ln these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom. it may concern Be it known that I, CHARLES F. ANNAN, of Boston, in the county of Suifolk and State of' Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Frame-work of' a Machine for Making Paper Bags, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying photographs making part of' this speeiiication, in which- Figure l is a perspective view of a machine for making paper bags provided with frame-work of my improved design.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the sides of the framework.
My invention consists in a unique and ornamental design for the frame-work ot' a machine for making paper bags, in which economy of' space, strength, and lightness are combined with cheapness of construction, while convenient and secure places are afforded for the bearings of the shafts, rolls, dsc., and easy access is obtained to the interior of the machine.
In the photographs- A B represent the upper and lower portions of one side of the frame-work, at one end of which is a vertical portion, C.
Between the portions A B are circular portions D E, within one, E, of which are two curved braces, a. b, in which are bearings for shafts.
At one end of the frame-work is a brace, G, of the form shown, at the end of which is the bearing for one end of the shaft which supports the roll of paper i'roxn which the bags are formed.
On the top of the portion A is a rectangular frame, 1I, within which is ahar or brace, c, in which are formed the bearings oi the upper feed-rolls of the 1nachine.
A frame-work of the design above described is unique and ornamental, and is particularly adapted to machines for making paper bags, as it enables nic to arrange the mechanism much more compactly than heretofore, the combination ofthe circular portions D E and braces (t I) with the straight portions A Il C enabling me to construct a frame-work with much less metal than has heretofore been required, while economy of space, strength, stiffness, and lightness are combined with cheapness of construction, convenient and secure places are alibi-ded for the bearings ot' the shafts, rolls, &c., and easy access is obtained to the interior oi' thc machine.
Claim.
lVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Iateut, is
The design for the frame-work of a machine for making paper bags herein shown and described.
fitness my hand this 26th day of November, A. D. 1870.
