Design No. 4,293, dated August 16, 1870.
DESIGN FOR A JOURNAL-BOX.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same I, PASCAL P. CHILD, oi' St. Louis, in the county of' St. Louis and State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for an Antifriction Journal-Box, of which the following is aspecification.
Figure 1 is a perspective view ofthe complete box.
Figure 2 shows, in perspective and detached, the three pieces of which the box is composed.
A, the stand, and
B, the roller, constitute the box propel'.
At each end ot' A is a perforated lug, a, for attachment to the frame.
Four vertical standards, a', give side bearing t-o the shaft that rests upon. the top of the roller B, said roller having journal bearing at the foot of the standards.
C is the cap, which is made to tit the top` of thebox, and is so formed as to carry ofi' gritty water that would otherwise fall upon the journals and cause friotion and wear.
The cap has, at each end, a lug, c, which has a recess in its lower side, to receive the lug a, of the stand, and which is perforated in a similar manner, to admit the screw, by which both cap and box are attached to the frame.
The whole forms a very eflcient anti-friction box, and, being cast in but three pieces, and having less weight of metal than other anti-friction boxes, is consequently cheaper of production.
I claim as my invent-ion- 1. 'lhe conformation of the box or stand A, substantiall y as represented.
2. The ornamental configuration ofthe cap C, substantiall y as represented.
PASCAL 1. CHILD.
