ELIZUR G. WEBSLER, OE
BROOKLYN, NEW YORK.
Design No. 4,418, dated October 1l, 1870.
DESIGN FOR A TEA AND COFFEE SERVICE.
The Schedule referred. to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To ally 'whom it may concern Be it known that I, Emana G. Wns'rnn, of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new Design for a Tea and Cofi'ee'Service; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, cle-ar, and exact description ofthe same, reference being had to the accompanying photographie illustration which represents a tea and coffee service in part made in accordance with my design.
The several vessels in the servico, or such as are constructed in accordance with my design, including the cream-pitcher, slop-howl, tea-pot, hot-water pot, coffee-pot, and sugar-bowl, have each of their bodies, which may either be plain or fancifully engraved, of circular form in their transverse section with the upper portions a thereof' tapering outwardly in an upward direction from a waist, b, and arched or hollowed as it approaches an upper rim, c, which bevels upwardly and inwardly.
The portion el of the body below the waist cis of dome-shape, terminating at its base in an abrupt or sharp edge, e, where it is joined by a lower portion,f,
which is arched or hollowed above and of an easy dii minishing taper in a downward direction, terminating in a rounded bottom.
The legs gare each formed with a square-shaped pedestal or foot, on which is mounted and joined to it, by an easy curve, au upright bar portion, oi" circular form on its transverse section, and having a square block-shaped ornament about the middle of its length, and terminating above in a block-shaped cap, that, on its front surface, forms a continuation of the dome d, and that, ou its sides, where it joins the portion f, is oi' a quadrantal form, and recessed so as to leave a rim or border.
From the junction of this quadrautal-shaped block, and from the base of the upright bar portion of the leg, are two curved braces or bar-shaped extensions, meeting at a point in the lower portion of the part f of the body.
The handle or handles 71., of such of the vessels as are provided with handles, are each composedof a straight bar, inelining outwardly in an upward direction from the dome d of the body, and of square form in its transverse section, and of tapering shape in direction of its length, increasing in thickness from its bottom upward, said bar being connected near its top` with the portion a of the body, by an arched bar o1 square form in its transverse section, and of a size and arranged so that it has the appearance of passing through the upper portion of the straight inclined har of the handle, and of projecting beyond it.
The spout k, of such of the vessels as have close spouts, is of octagonal form in its transverse section, mounted on its back or inner side by a flat-shaped projection, s, the general configuration of' which approximates a right-angled triangle, recessed in its sides or faces, so as to form a border. Said spout gradually increases in width or thickness from its upper to its lower end, at which latter part it joins, or is seated on a many-sided nozzle or base portion of the conguration shown at on, that has mounted on it an irregular-shaped ornament, as, which connects the spout with the dome portion d of the body.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The design and contiguration of the body of either vessel or piece in the service as shown and described, with referencc to'the portions a, (l, and f.
2. rBhe design and configuration oi' the legs g, as shown and described.
3. The design and couiiguration oi' the handle or handles h, as represented and specified.
4. The design and configuration of the spout k, with its nozzle or base portion m, and ornamental projections s x, as shown and described.
ELIZUR G. WEBSTER.
