Description

dilated gottes @anni @Wina Design No. 4,270,5Zoted August 2, 1870.
DESIGN FOR A KNITTBD FABRIC.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same Z'o all whom it 'may concern:
Beit known that I, MARTIN LANDENBERGER, of hiladelphia, in the county olPhiladelphia and State if Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new .nd original Design forKnitted Fabric, of' which the ollowing is a specification.
The nature of my design is fullyrepresented in the ccompanying photographic illustration, to which eference is made, and consists in au imitation of eriine, which may be 0i' any color, and used for shawls, oods, childrens muis, and tibbits, trimming for garients, Ste.
Figure l shows bottom ot' goods.
Figure 2 represents top of goods with loops thrown mrt, showing [node of tying.
Figure 3 is a plan view.
Figure 4 is a view showing how the stitch is made. This stitch is made on a double-rib machine, with fo needle-bars and two guide-bars. rhe needle-bars e placed as i'ar apart as the length of the loop reiires. The needles on these bars rise and fall alterytely, -thatis, one bar rises as the other falls.
The novelty of this stitch lies in the fact that it is' ide on self-acting needles, and that the threads 'ming the ruche lap on every other needle in the nt bar alternately, making a loop on half` the neeis, while the other half' presses oli', as will be underod on reference to fig. 4.
Let the dots a a represent the needles, N o. l bein back bar, and N o. 2 the front bar. Let the black line mark the course of one thread through one rei lution of thc machine, and thc red liuc mark t course of the same thread through the next revol tion.
The thread will start from A in the back bur, l: around D in the front bnr, and go back and lap on which completes one revolution.
Then it begins at B, laps around C, and goes ha( and laps on A, which completes the second rcvol tion.
Now, when the thread is lapping over D in the n revolution, there is a loop on C, but as soon as t-l needles go down there is aloopon D, and() has presst off; and when the thread laps over C, and the nel dles go down, the loop which remains on D presses o and C has another loop.
Besides these threads, there are others, lapping frox one needle to another, in the back bar, making a plai stitch, which serves to hold the work firmly togethel What I claim is- The design for knitted fabric, as shown and de scribed.
In testimony whereof' I have this specification in the witnesses.
signed my naine t( presence oi' two subscribing MARTIN LANDENBERGER.
