UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ILLIAM O. CODMAN, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO GORHAM MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, FORKS, OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,180, dated October 15, 1901.
Application filed September 12, 1901. Serial No. 75,235. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. CODMAN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Islan d, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Handle of a Spoon, Fork, or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is a front view, and Fig. 2 a rear view, of the handle, illustrating my design.
In the drawings the handle is shown attached to the bowl of a spoon, the tines of a fork being indicated in broken lines in Fig. 1.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material feature of my design consists in the raised marginal bead extending along the sides and the upper end of the handle in curved lines of general oblique direction, so as to give a gradually-increasing width to the handle. The narrowest part of the handle is secured to the article, near which a bulbous enlargement connects with the stem, which broadens at the junction of the stem with the blade of the handle, the end of which is broadened and terminates in three segmental curves. The raised marginal bead incloses panels ornamented with raised representations of meadow-grasses and the conventional representations of marguerite flowers, presenting to the eye the appearance of obliquely-disposed meadow Weeds and grasses interposed with marguerite flowers.
Having described my invention, What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for the handle of a spoon, fork or similar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
VILLIAM O. OODMAN.
