DESIGN FOR A TIRE.
SPECIFICATION forming' part 0f Design N 0. 34,002, dated January 29, 1901.
Application filed December Z9, 1899. Serial No. 742,004. Term of patent 14 years.
To @ZZ whom t may concern.-
` Be it known that I, JOHN M. SWEET, a citizen of the United States, residing at Batavia, in the county of Genesee and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Tires, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof.
This design relates to the configuration 0r transverse outline of an elastic or cushion tire having a solid tread rising from the base.
The accompanying drawing is a sectional perspective View of a cushion-tire embodying my design.
The leading feature of my design consists of Wings or lips which project laterally from the base of the tire and curve upwardly along the lower portion of the tire on both sides thereof and which are provided at their upper ends with heads or enlargements which project both inwardly and outwardly from the wings and are convex on their upper sides.
Referring to the drawing, A represents the solid tread of the tire, which is rounded at its upper or outer face and which has its sides slightly converging toward the base B.
O represents the lower` face of the base, and D a depression or channel formed centrally in the lower face of the base.
E represents the wings or lips, which pro'- ject laterally from the sides of the base and curve upwardly along the lower portion ot' the tire on both sides thereof.
F represents the heads or enlargements at the upper free ends of the wings or lips. These heads project both inwardly and outwardly from the wings or lips and are con- Vex on their upper sides. The lower or outer side of each wing or lip is of ogee form, extending from the base of the tire to the head or enlargement at the upper end of the wing or lip. The inner side of each wing or lip is of concave or rounded forni from the head or enlargement of the Wing or lip to its junction with the side of the tread. The inner side of the head or enlargement F of the wing or lip which faces the side of the tread is slightly flattened.
lVhat I claim is- The design for an elastic tire, substantially as herein shown and described.
Witness my hand this 21st day of Deceniber, 1899.
