Description

dilated some B. F. STURTEVANT, OF BOSTON, MASS KCHUSETTS.
Design No. 3,399, dated March 2, 1869.
DESIGN FOR A. BLOWER-CASE.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pan: of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, B. F. STUREVANT, of Boston, in the county of Sufl'olk, and State of Massa: husetts, have originated a new Design for Fan and Pressure Blower- Oases; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the said design.
The invention relates to the exterior form or contour given to the blower-cases of that class of fan and pressure-blowers now extensively used for ventilating-purposes, and in connection with cupola-furnaces.
The accompanying photograph represents a blowercase embodying my design.
a a denote the side plates, and b, the peripheral plate of the blower-case, each side plate being provided with a central opening, 0, through which projects one of the gudgeous of the blower-wheel, said wheel rotating within the case, the gudgeons being supported in suitable boxes at the opposite sides of the case, as may be seen by reference to my patent of October 29, 1867, No. 70,286.
The size of the openings 0 is such as to freely admit air through them into the case, from which, impelled by the blades of the rotary wheel, such air is driven through the tangential eduction-spout d.
The side plates a a and peripheral plate b, constitute the shell or wheel-containing case.
The plate b is curved transversely, as seen in the photograph, and the perimeter, or edge of each side plate, is made with a bead, e, to which are joined bosses j; through which are the screwrholes for reception of screws g, by which each side plate is fastened to the plate b.
Adjacent to each central opening 0, each side plate is made with a swell, or convexity h, concentric to the circular opening, and just beyond this swell the plate is made flat, or with a plane surface, which, beginning at nothing, near the eduction-spout, widens, as it extends around the opeuing, like a scroll, or helix-shape, terminating at the eduction-pipe, where its width is of a depth equal to the space between the edges 'i. dot the peripheral plate I) at the reduction-opening.
The blower-case stands upon feet It, cast integral with the lower part of plate I).
I claim the design for a blower-case, substantially as shown and described.
