Description

. plan.
PATENT @Errea ENOCH CARLETON, OF CAPE ELIZABETH, MAINE.
IMPROVEMENT IN Brown-:Rs
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 116,265, dated June 27, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, ENOCH OARLETON, of Cape Elizabeth, in the county of Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented a new and useful Improve-d Blower; and I do hereby declare the fol.- lowing to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing', in which- Figure l is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a top The blower is constructed asfollows: A is a horizontal shaft, having at either extremity a band-wheel, B. Centrally situa-ted on this shaft is the wheel,.consisting of three thin walls or partitions, C D E, shown by dotted lines in Fig. 2.
j Of these three circular walls the middle and larger one, C, has no aperture. The outer walls D and E have each two almond-shaped or oval holes, F. The holes F in each wall are so arranged or disposed that there is one in each quadrant of the wheel. Covering these holes are the projecting fans G, which inclose the aperture on all sides save onethat which would first strike the air when the Wheel is revolved in the proper direction. Between the Walls D and E the shaft A is somewhat enlarged. From this enlarged shaft to the edge or outer circumference of the wheel, and
running along the edge of the aperture E, is the partition H, extending from the wall D on one side of the wall C and to the wall E on the other. There are four of these partitions H, two upon each side of the wall C, those on one side having' a general direction at right angles to the direction of those upon the other side. The wheel is surrounded with a casing, 'I which overlaps .the sides of the wheel as far as the projecting fans G will allow, and terminates in the mouth K. The general form of the casing is circular, not, however, concentric with the wheel, there being greater space between the circumference of the wheel and that side of the casing opposite the mouth K than upon the other side ofthe casing. The upper half of the casiu g may be removable,
the edges ofthe lower part being provided with A the usual air-strips 5 or it may be cast in two longitudinal vertical sections.
This `blower may, by the use of air-tight joints, be used as a pump for drawing water and kindred purposes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
The arrangement herein shown of the circular Witnesses:
GEORGE E. BIRD, WM. H. CLIFFORD.
