DESlGN FOR A HANDLE FOR PAPER-KNIVES OR SlMlLAR ARTICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 33,679, dated December 11, 1900. Application filed July 25,1900. Serial No. 24,821. Term of patent '7 years To all whom it ntay concern.-
Be it known that 1, JOHN L. SOMMER, a citizen of the United States, and a resident. of Newark, in the county of Essex and State of 5 New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Handles of Paper-Knives or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new design for the handles of paper-knives and other small articles or implements of which the handles are commonly formed integral with the blade or shank.
The accompanying drawings illustrate such a handle formed with the present design.
Figure 1 is a face view, and Fig. 2 an edge view, of the same.
The body of the handle consists of a fiat blade divided by transverse ribs r into a plain central or intermediate portion u, having parallel edges and end sections b and c, the edges of each of which are rounded inwardly at their farther ends and whose fiat faces are flared to the point of junction with the adjacent cylindrical portions (Z 6, respectively.
Between the blade or shank of the implement (indicated in the drawings in dotted lines) and the portion Ll of the handle is a circular bead g, the handle being reduced on the side of said head adjacent the portion (1 to form a contracted neck 71. The opposite extremity of the handle terminates in a ball or knob i, the connecting part intermediate the same and the portion 0 being reduced to form a small notch or groove 1. The flattened portions 1) and c are shown provided each with an ornamental pattern.
Having thus set forth the nature of the invention, what I claim herein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
