A TOY TOP.
gn No. 31,654, dated October 10, 1899.
Application filed August 25,1899. Serial No. 728,508. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom. it may (Ollffll'llr Be it known that I, ADOLPIIUS E. lornn'r, T a citizen of the United States, residing at Sedalia, in the county of Pettis and State of Misi souri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Toy Top, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a toy top, and has for its object to provide a design of this character which shall be both useful and ornamental. The leading feature of the design resides in a top-body having a flat upper end, into the peripheral edge of which the sides of the top I5 gradually taper, and surmounted by a trusteconical head arising centrally from the Hat 3 upper end of the top-body and smaller in diameter than said flat end, the base of the head having an upstanding circular wall, the hottom of which is surrounded by a broad ilat ledge, formed by the flat end of the top, the sides of the head converging upwardly from the upper edge of the upstanding wall and the convex circular crown capping the upper T end of the head, the lower peripheral edge of 3 the crown projecting outwardly beyond the 1 sides of the upper end of the head and forming an overhanging flange.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective 0 view of a toy top embodying the herein-dcscribed design. Fig. 2 is a central longitudi- 1 nal sectional view thereof. Fig. I} is a plan view of the upper end of the top. Referring to the accompanying drawings, the numeral 1 designates the inverted conical-shaped body of the top, provided at its 1 upper end with the frustoeonical head :2. The base of the head is circular in shape and of smaller diameter than the maximum diameter of the top-body and is provided with an upstanding peripheral wall 3, the upper end of the top-body being ilat, as indicated at 4, and the head being located centrally of this that upper end, and thereby arranged concentrio with the longitudinal axis of the top. This flat portion of the top-bod forms a comparatively broad and fiat ledge surrounding the upstanding wall of the base of the head and located at the bottom of said wall. The sides of the topbod vgraduallytaperinwardly to the outer peripheral edge of this annular ledge. From the upper edge of the peripheral wall of the base of the head the sides 5 converge upwardly and are also dished or concaved in a vertical direction. The upper end of the head is capped by a comparatively flat circular convex crown 6,01" greater diameter than the upper end of the head, the lower peripheral edge 7 of the crown forming an annularoverhanging flange which projects outwardly beyond the convergent sides of the head.
\Vhat is claimed is The design for a toy top herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as myown I have hereto atlixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
