In 0 e n for, iffiifm m WW UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE .IOIIN \V. IIARMON, OF CANTON, OIIIO, ASSIGNOR TO THE GILIIIAM MANU- FACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESlGN FOR A COACH-PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,273, dated February 28, 1899. Application filed February 4, 1899- Serial No. 704,585. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it 12mg concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN W. IIARMON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Canton, Stark county, Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Coach-Pads, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
Figure l is a rear elevation of a coach-pad,
showing my new design. Fig. 2 is a sectional perspective view taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1.
Coach-pads as commonly constructed consist of a curved flanged metal pad-plate, a leather-covered pad secured to the underside of the plate, and a leather strap secured upon the plate between the flanges thereof. It is to a coach-pad having this general construction that my invention relates.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material features of my design consist in extending the edges of the pad a short distance in front of and behind the pad-plate, to the under side of which the pad is secured, and in securing two beaded strips between the plate 2 5 and pad, the beads whereof lie upon and project partly across the top surfaces of the projecting edges of the pad. In other words, a pad embodying my design has a curved padplate A and a leather-covered pad 15, lying against the under side of said plate and hav- 3o ing its edges 1) b projected both forwardly and rearwardly beyond the corresponding edges of the plate and having upon the top surfaces of the projecting edges of said pad and close to the edges of the pad-plate the beads C U It is manifest that the beads C C may, if desired, be of a different color from the other parts of the pad.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design fora coach-pad as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN \V. IIARMON.
Witnesses:
