UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ESSINGTON N. GILFILLAN, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE GILFILLAN SCALE AND HARDWARE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A FRAME FOR SPRING-BALANCES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,114, dated January 31, 1899.
Application filed November 30, 1894. Serial No. 530,491. Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Essmoron N GILFIL- LAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Frames for Spring- Balances, of which the following, in con nection with the accompanying drawing, isa full, clear, and exact specification.
The said drawing is a perspective view of a spring-balance frameembodyingand showing my design.
The leading feature of my design consists of a frame for spring-balances having the scale-plate A arranged in an upright position at one end of the frame and also having a cylindrical surface bowed or bent on the arc of a circle from top to bottom.
The bowed scale-plate Ais arranged in an upright or substantially vertical position and is provided with a vertical slot a, and its surface or face is curved like the side of a cylinder. The two side edges and bottom of the scale-plate A are bordered by a rib or beadlike portion D.
When viewed from the front, the plate A is seen to rise from the base of the frame and is apparently supported by a foot portion or pedestal E, projecting from both sides of the plate A.
The foot-like portion E when viewed in perspective forms the base or continuation of the skeleton frame 13. The rear ends of the frame portion A are carried toward each other and connect with the upright portions of the frame B, and the top side members of the frame B, which extend rearwardly from the back of the plate A, are joined by a cross member G.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a frame for spring-balances substantially as herein shown and described.
E. N. GILFILLAN.
