.L @Wv e M: ggeww LAM ,z (swa UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ARA D. OROOKER, OF SHEBOYGAN, WISCONSIN, ASSIGNOR TO THE CROCKER CHAIR COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A CHAIR OR STOOL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,397, dated September 20, 1898.
Application filed August 25, 1898. Serial No. 689,528- Term of patent 7 years.
To all whom, it ntay concern:
Beit known that I, ARAD. CROCKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sheboygan, in the county of Sheboygan and State of Wisconsin, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Chairs or Stools; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same,
reference being had to the accompanying to drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the said drawings, Figure 1 is a view in front or'rear elevation, and Fig. 2 a view in end elevation, of a chair or stool embodying my new design.
My design relates to the new and original shape or configuration of the article.
The leading or essential feature consists in the unitary design for a chair or stool made the subject of illustration, comprising four legs, the upper ends of which are vertical and the lower ends of which are curved, so as to flare outwardly, and which legs are connected together by series of horizontally-disposed rounds or braces, in connection with the shape of the seat of the chair, which has parallel straight sides and extends on a horizont-al plane between the line of the legs, beyond which the said seat extends upward and flares outward at each end upon the line of 0 an ogee, terminating in a transverse roll or rounded portion in a straight transverse line, each end of said roll or rounded portion being finished with rounded bosses of a shape like that of a small exterior section out from a sphere.
The rounds or braces which connect the legs at each end of the chair or stool are arranged in pairs, one above and in vertical line with the other and parallel therewith, while the rounds which connect the legs at the front and rear are arranged in vertical series of three, parallel with each other, but disposed so as to alternate in vertical line with the rounds or braces at the ends and each brace intermediate of its ends is formed with a series of circumferential rounded portions separated by narrow rounded rings, and exterior to the outer rings are annular grooves, from which points the said rounds or braces are gradually tapered toward their ends where they come in contact with the legs. Above the line of the upper braces each leg is formed with a circumferential groove, and above that with a pair of concave rounded portions separated by another annular groove, and the lower one of said rounded concave portions being formed with a centrally-disposed pair of circumferential rings, while above the upper one of said rounded concave portions the top of the leg is formed cylindrical, there being transverse cleats having beveled edges extending along the under side of the seat at each end and interposed between the same and the tops of the legs.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letter Patent, is
The design for a chair or stool, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature 7o in presence of two witnesses.
ARA D. CROOKER.
