FRANK A. THOMAS, OF CEDAR RAPIDS, IOlVA.
DESIGN FOR A BELAYlNG-HOOK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,041, dated July 12, 1898.
Application filed May 9, 1898. Serial No. 680,239. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, FRANK A. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cedar Rapids, in the county of Linn and State of lowa, have invented a certain new and original Design for Ilelaying-Ilooks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention.
This invention relates to devices used for holding the ends of ham mock-ropes and the like, it being understood that a loop in the ends of the rope engages the lateral arms and the body of the rope passes through the eye formed by the coils at the other end.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front view of my new design, and Fig. 2 is a view of the same as seen from one side at right angles to the position shown in Fig. l.
The main featn res of the design area coiled ring, forming an eye at one end, a body or shank uniting in a twist the terminals of the coil, and arms branching from the twisted shank at practically right angles thereto and in practically the same plane as the pentral turn of the coil, the arms having terminal eyes to give them a neat and finished appearance.
Referring to the drawings, A denotes the ring, having the conformation of a triple coil of cylindrical material, such as wire, the terminals of which converge at A and unite in a twisted body portion or shank B. At the upper end the two members of the shanks diverge, as shown, and project in opposite directions, the diverging arms (3 C terminating in eyes C C.
The design as viewed from the front or back presents somewhat the appearance of a capital letter T, and from either of the other sides it appears as a coil merged in a spiral stem with a rounded terminal of the width of one member of the spiral.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a belaying-hook substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FRANK A. THOMAS.
