CARRIE L. HUGHES, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
TAPE-NEEDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent NO. 694,281, dated February 25, 1902.
Application filed December 16, 1901. Serial No. 86,041. (No model.)
T0 all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARRIE LHUGHEsa citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cleveland, county of Guyahoga,State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tape-Needles, of which I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in tape-needles; and the objects of the invention are to provide a form of construction of the needle whereby the tape can be inserted in heading and other forms of open fabric and by means of which all danger of twisting of the tape behind the needle is avoided.
My invention consists in providing the neodle with two eyes, one at either extremity, and with a catch or detent formed in the body portion of the needle,as hereinafter described, shown in the accompanying drawings, and specifically pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the needle. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section thereof and of the tape threaded therein, showing the manner of securing the tape thereto; and Fig. 3 is a view of a piece of beading in which the tape and needle are inserted.
In the views, lis the body of the needle, showing it composed of thin fiat metal.
2 is a narrow eye at the pointed end 3, and 4 is a similar eye at the rear extremity.
5 is a pointed catch or detent struck integrally from the body of the needle about centrally between the eyes.
6 is the tape, which is threaded first through it will not twist as it follows the needle.
In my invention by placing the detent 5 centrally in the body of the needle and passing the tape through the eye in the point, so that the tape will lie flat over the length of the needle, it will then remain flat in the fabric without twisting.
If desired, alarger tape than can be threaded through the eye can be used by passing it overthe point of the needle and hooking the end over the detent 5.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A tape-threading needle comprising a thin flatlbody portion, an eye at each end of the needle, and a pointed detent formed in the body portion between the eyes, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARRIE L. HUGHES.
