UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
FERDINAND S. WELLER, OF QUINCY, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR TO THE W. J LOTH STOVE COMPANY, OF IVAYNESBOROUGH, VIRGINIA.
DESIGN FOR A HEATER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,603, dated May 10, 1898. Application filedMarch 21, 1898. Serial No. 674,685. Term of patent 7 years.
T0 at whom it may concern.-
Beit known that I, FERDINAND S. WELLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quincy, in the county of Adams and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Heater; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a plan View of the top of the heater, showing my design; and Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
My design has especial reference to the ornamentation upon the top and cover of the heater, and the leading features of such design are found in the parts hereinafter particularly described, and pointed out in the claims. The top has an outline in the form of a flattened circle, and around its edge is provided with a continuous serrated molding 1. At one end of the longer dimension of said top is a circular opening 2, surrounded by a continuous narrow flange 3, the said flange being adjacent to the serrated molding 1 ata portion of its periphery. Upon opposite sides of the circular flange 3 are two small scrolls 4 and 5 and two large scrolls 6 and 7, variously foliated, the large scrolls having convoluted ends and partially surrounding the small scrolls. Two still smaller scrolls, 8 and 9, are located upon opposite sides of the center of the top at the end above referred to. The remaining portion of the periphery of the flange 3 is bounded by a variously-convoluted scroll 10. Upon the opposite ends of the shorter dimension of the top are two diadelphous scrolls 11 and 12, variously serrated and convoluted, and while being similarly disposed longitudinally are oppositely disposed laterally. Two small bosses 13 and 14, bounded by irregularly-serrated scrolls, are located near the outer edge of the top at opposite. sides thereof. A continuous plain rib 15 follows the inner outline of the serrated molding 1, and a circular rib 16, whose diameter is slightly greater than half the length of the longer dimension, merges into the said rib 15 along one end of the longer dimension of the top and is partially bounded by the scrolls 10, 11, and 12 and the dart-shaped figures 17 and 18, which dart-shaped figures fill in the spaces between the scrolls 11 and 12 and the scroll 10 and complete the ornamentation of the top.
The cover is bounded by a plain circular concave molding 19,and has a flat central boss 20, bounded by a continuous concave molding 21. The annular space between the two moldings 19 and 21 is generally rounded or convex and is ornamented by four similar scrolls 22, having convoluted ends, which touch the molding 21 at regular intervals and also touch each other. IVithin the convolutions of each of the scrolls 22 are three irregular hollow quadrangular figures 23, 24, and 25, arranged radially with respect to the center of the boss 20. A small variously serrated and foliated scroll 26 fillsin the space between the opposite ends of each of the four scrolls 22, adjacent to the moulding 21, there being four of these scrolls 26 similar to each other. Four dart-shaped figures 27, similar to each other, fill in the spaces between the adjacent ends of the four scrolls 22 at the outer side adjacent to the molding 19 and complete the ornamentation of the cover.
What I claim is 1. In a design for a heater, the design for the top, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for a heater, the design for the cover, substantially as shown and described.
3. The design for a heater, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
FERDINAND S. WELLER.
