DESIGN FOR A TRADE-MARK.
fiilgt firlgrtulc numb it in ilgrse ifrtin's aililitiii nab making pint of illt stain.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOHN G. MACKINTQSM, oi the city, county, and State of New York, have originated an produced a new Design for a Trade-Mark, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, refei enee being had to the accompanying drawing or engraving, making a part of this specification.
The essential features of said design are the words Seotia Mills, printed in Roman letters, as showr and a shield-shaped device bearing upon its face the letters J. G. M. in script. The words Scotia Mills are arranged upon the arc of a circle, and bordered above with curved lines extending in a direction nearl parallel t;- the are in which the words Scotia Mills are arranged. The shield-shaped device is placed iuimc diately beneath the said words, and has eight sides, all slightly curved. The edges of this device are slightl; bevelled, and the shield is shown in relief. The letters J. G. M, in script, are placed in a right line acres the face of this shield, at a point about midway of its length. This shield is bordered by ornamental scroll work, the same being shown as springing from the edges of the shield. The said design may be made in bronz or gilt, as shown, or in any colordesired.
The use and application of said design is as a cloth-ticket, so called, being intended to be attached t pieces of woven cloth of a certain quality or manufacture. The two bordering lines of sait cloth-ticket,
-being parallel for the greater portion of their length, I do not regard as an essential part of the design, nor do desire to be confined to the use of the two external border lines shown; but the words Scotia Mills, printe in Roman letters, and arranged upon or in the are of a circle, the centre of which is below said letters, used i combination with the shield-shaped device placed beneath said words, as described, and bearing on its face th letters J. G. M., in script; the whole, together with the said bordering devices above the said words and arounl said shield, being formed and arranged substautialh as described, I consider to be and to constitute a ne design for a. trade-mark.
What I therefore claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a trademark, substantially as herein set forth and shown.
J. G. MACKINTOSH. Witnesses:
