TRUCK SIDE BAR.
N0. 26,442. Patented Dec. 22, 1896.
A TTURN E Y I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL M. CURVVEN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A T RUCK SIDE BAR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 26,442, dated December 22, 1896.
Application filed November 3,-1896. Serial No. 610,985. Term of patent 14 years.
T at whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SAMUEL M. CURWEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Truck Side Bar, of which the following is a specification.
The essential feature of my design resides in the configuration of the side bar, substantially as shown in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 isa side elevation of the inner side of the bar Fig. 2, a plan View; and Fig. 3, a sectional elevation on the line a a, Fig. 2.
The side bar comprises the following construction, arranged substantially as illustrated herein:
At 1 are the inverted- U shaped yokes, and 2 the legs thereof, the top cross-pieces 3 having the outwardly-extending flanges 4.
At 5 is a top or cross bar which unites the cross-pieces 3 of the yokes, is narrower in width than the yoke-legs 2, the top of which extends above the top of the cross-pieces, and extends to the outer edge of the outer leg.
Extending from the outer legs of the yokes are extensions 6, narrowing toward the ends, the connection of the extensions and yokelegs being adjacent the ends of the latter. 1Vebs 7 connect the yoke-legs and extensions above and below the latter, and at the ends of the extensions are enlargements 8 with central transverse grooves 9, forming transverse lips 10 above and below the end of the extensions.
Adjacent the yokes and depending from the top bar 5 are lugs 11, each having a central groove 12 and lips 13, and on the inner vertical side of the top bar and between the lugs arc outwardly-extending angularbrackets 14, having inclined ribs merging into the sides of the top bar.
Having described my invention, I claiin The design for a truck side bar, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania this th day of February, 1806.
SAML. M. CURWEN. W'itnesses:
