DESIGN FOR PLIERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,978, dated August 25, 1896.
Application filed December 26,1894. Serial No. 533,020. Term of patent 14 years.
To (ZZZ whom it may (OIUIKI'M3 Be it known that I, ALLIsON N. ULARK, a eitizen of the United States, residing at Plain ville, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Pliers, of which the following is a specification, referenee beinghad to the accompanying drawin forming a part thereof.
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a pair of pliers, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detached plan view of one of the two principal members of my pliers.
My pliers consist mainly of two like parts, which constitute the two principal members and are substantially of a uniform thickness from end to end. Each part is a lever of the first order, and the middle portion (7:, which surrounds the fulcrum, is substantially of disk form, while the tapering nose 1) extends tangentially from said middle portion, as shown, and the handle-arm c, which is curved in side view, as shown, extends in the opposite direetion from said middle portion. The radical diiterenee between my pliers and prior ones of a similar general outline will be readily seen by observing the junction of the disk-like middle portion with the otherparts, where I form the oflsets (Z on both broad sides of each member. I also make eaeh member of a uniform thickness from end to end, whereby its two sides, as seen in plan view, are parallel throughout. In addition to this the offsets d are of such lateral depth that the inner face of the middle disk-like portion is in a plane that passes lengthwise through the middle of the nose I) and handlearm 1:, all as shown. In the complete pliers, as shown in plan View in Fig. 2, the two diskform middle portions show side by side, while the nose and handle-arm of the two members are one over the other, showing one edge only, all as shown and described, thereby giving the pliers a graceful and pleasing effect.
\Vhat I claim is-- The design for pliers substantially as shown and deseribed.
