SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 25,157, dated February 11, 1896.
Application filed January 11, 1896. Serial No. 675,184. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
lle itknown thatI, IIETTA E. IIL'NTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVashin gton, in the District of Columbia, have invented a new and original Design for Students Chairs, of which the following is a specification.
This design has for its object to provide a students chair which presents a characteristic, handsome and ornamental appearance.
The leading feature of the design consists in a students chair having a flattened chairseat, a straight u n'ight back provided with top and bottom transverse back pieces, two ornamental scrolled panels arranged vertically between the back pieces, and a plurality of vertical rounds between the scrolled panels, a side arm composed of a narrow shank portion joined to the chair-back and widened laterally to extend over the front part of the chair-seat, front chair-legs terminating at the frame of the chair-seat, and an ornamental flat post having indented or scrolled edges and located between one corner of the chair-seat frame and the side arm.
The design is illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which the figure is a perspective view of the chair.
In the accompanvin g drawing, the numeral 1 indicates an ornamental perforated flattened chair-seat arranged on the approximately square chair-seat frame 2.
The numerals 3 and 4 indicate the upright side pieces of the chair-back, connected at their top portion by a transverse back piece 5, and at a point directly above the rear part of the chair-seat frame by a transverse back piece 0, somewhat narrower than the upper back piece. The space between the two transverse back pieces 5 and 0 is occupied by two Vertical ornamental scrolled panels 7 and R, and a plurality of vertical rounds 8 interposed between the scrolled panels.
The chair is armless at one side, but at the opposite side is provided with a side arm composed of a narrow shank portion 9, and portions 10 and 12 widened approximately at right angles to and projecting in opposite directions from the shank portion. The widened portion 12 is of greater dimensions than the widened portion 10, and extends horizontally over the front part of the chair-seat.
The chair is provided at the front with two flat legs 13 and II, which terminate at the chair-scat frame 2. An ornamental fiat post 15, having indented scroll-shaped edges, is interposed between one corner of the chair-seat frame and the side arm. An inclined rod 113 extends from the ornamental post 15 to the under side of the widened portion 19 of the side arm.
The form or shape and arrangement of all the parts described are such as to provide a novel students chair which is handsome, ornamental, and characteristic in appearance.
\Vhat I claim is- The design for a students chair, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
