DESIGN FOR A CHAIR.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 24,388, dated June 1 1, 1895.
Application iiled May 1B, 1895. Serial No. 549,191- Term of' patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern: Beit known thatI, GEORGE F. RICHARDSON, a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Martinsville, in the county of Morgan and State of 5 Indiana, have invented and produced a new and useful Design fOr Chairs; and I do hereby declare the followingr to be a full,clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in theart to which it. ap-
. 1o pertains to make and use the same.
The leading features of my design are iu those parts which are above the seat portion of the chair. The two front legs A, A, extend vertically from the door to their intersection x5 with the seat and from thence are bent Out wardly. The back legs or posts B, B, start ing from the oor are carried approximately in avertical direction until they meet the seat and are thence curved outwardly and zo nally make a return bend and extend a short distance in an approximately vertical direction. Bent cross bars C, C, connect the upper ends of the posts B, B, and have their ends overlapping said posts. The distance apart z 5 of the bars is about equal to the distance apart of the posts. The four sided frame thus formed is filled in with the woven splint strands E in the pattern shown in the draw ing. The bent hars F and F are of horse shoe shape and reach from the inside ot' one 3o of the posts A to the inside of the otherof the said 4posits and are in contact with the posts B, B. The curvature of the upper bar is larger in diameter than the lower One. The space between the two bars with the excep- 35 tion of a few inches adjacent to the posts A, is filled in with woven splint work. 'lhe bottom G is also Of woven splint Work.
All of the posts, bars, and rounds, are covered with the natural bark Otl the second 4o growth hickory.
The samedesign can be used fOr chairs with Or without rockers.
What I claim is- The design for a chair, substantially as 45 shown and described.
