UNITED STATES PATENT OFFIc ERNEST W. CAMPBELL, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND, ASSIGNOR TO THE HOLMES & EDWARDS SILVER COMPANY, OF BRIDGEPORT, CON- NECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A HANDLE FOR SPOONS, 84c.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 23,263, dated May 15, 1894.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERNEST W. CAMPBELL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Handle for Spoons, Forks, or Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l 3 represents the obverse side of a spoon embodying my design, and Fig. 2 the reverseside. In said figures the dotted lines indicate a fork in which the design is embodied.
The design extends along the irregular out- 5 line of the handle, the edges of the latter on both sides bein gslightly raised above the general surface to form a narrow rib a, which is interrupted or severed at intervals where it merges into the foliates or scrolled devices 0 about to be described.
The design includes the representation of entwined conventional leaves or scrolls 7) sur- Application filed March 1'7, 1894- Serial No. 504,099- Term of patent 7 years.
mounting the upper end of the handle. Along the two edges of the handle, about mid-way of its length, arearranged smaller scrolled devices or leaves 0. Below this, on the reverse side of the handle, is the representation of a conventional leaf or scroll d, the same extending across the handle at that point. The opposite or obverse side of the handle, at or near its lower end, carries the representation of a series of obliquely arranged oval shields e surrounded with foliate devices, as shown in Fig. l.
I claim The design for a handle for spoons, forks and similar articles, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERNEST V. CAMPBELL.
