DESIGN.
H. HOGK. DRESS TRIMMING.
No. 225652. Patented Aug. 1, 1893.
INVENTOR UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY HOOK, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR DRESS-TRIMMING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,652, dated August 1, 1893.
Application filed J' une 22. 1893. Serial No. 478,522 Term of' patent 3% years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY HOOK, of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania., have invented and produced a new and original Design for Dress-Trimmings, whereof the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
Said drawn g represents a f ront or face View of apiece of said trimming, of sufficient length to indicate the characteristics thereof. The trimming consists of a band of open Work gimp fabric, comprising a backing of transverse cords of relatively small diameter, and a facing of longitudinal zigzag dat cords, of larger diameter, arranged in series in the manner hereinafter more particularly set forth.
Referring to the drawing, the transverse cords which form the backing are indicated at a, and the zigzag cords of the facing at c. It will be observed that said zigzag flat cords, c, are arranged in pairs, the apex or corner of each zigzag, upon one corner of the pair, alternating with those upon the other, so that the cords cross one another symmetrically between the apexes. In the present instance the width of the trimming is such that four of these pairs are arranged across its face, the apexes of the zigzags of each pair slightly overlapping the corresponding apexes 3o of the adjacent pair, as indicated at d. Aseries of straight cords, b, of small diameter, run longitudinally with the trimming, through the intersections of the apexes of the respective pairs of zigzags, and also through the apexes, e, of the zigzags along the outer edges of the trimming. The eifect, upon the eye, of the overlapping intersections of the respective zigzags, is that of a series of hollow bosses, caused by the somewhat rounded contour and inward depression of the apexes of the zigzags.
Having thus described my invention, I wish it to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise number of pairs of zigzags, nor of transverse backing cords shown in the drawing, as the effect of the design would not be materially altered by varying these, the width of the band of trimming or the solidity of the fabric alone being affected by such modifications.
I claim- The design for a trimming substantially as shown and described.
HARRY HOOK.
