L. B. MARTIN.
INKSTANDI No. 19,953. Patented July 1, 1890.
HHH UL VM Yy WMM UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LUOIEN B. MARTIN, OF FOSTORIA, OHIO, ASSIGNOR TO TIIE FOSTORIA GLASS COMPANY.
DESIGN FOR AN INKSTAND.
To all whom t may concern.'
Beit known that l, LUCIEN B. MARTIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Fostoria, in the county of Seneca and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a neur and original Design for Inkstands; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying illustration, forming a part thereof.
The main vfeature ot my design consists in the main body or inkstand proper formed in triangular shape in general appearance and being made up of three half spheres or portions of spheres, which are arranged around a central portion, giving the appearance of three spheres grouped together, the surfaces of which are formed into longitudinal ribs.
The top or cover of the inkstand has the shape of a attened sphere, being circular in plan view while elliptical in elevation, and has raised on its upper half a series of twisted iiutings, which taper to a point at the center of the top and form a number of radial compound curves emanating from the center of the said top.
In the accompanying illustration is shown a perspective of' the inkstand, in which the letter A indicates the,Y three semi-spherical projections, which are arranged to correspond with the points of an equilateral triangle, the other half of the spheres being merged in the central portion. These spheres or semispheres are made in corrugated form, having the iiutings or ribs a extending longitudinally around them, which ilutings taper from the point of the greatest circumference, which is centrally of the sphere, to a point at both top and bottom, all the iiutings meeting at a common point b. The top or cover B is formed after the appearance of a flattened sphere, tile under portion c of which is left plain, While the upper portion is ornamented by a series of raised ribs or utings d, which radiate from the center of the top, commencing in a point and gradually expanding toward the greatest circumference of the top, where the iiutin gs terminate in a series of scallops e. The fiutings, instead of coming direct from the central point, twist to form a compound curve, which adds greatly to the ornamental effect of the design.
Having described my design, what I claim 1sl. A design for an inkstand, consisting of three spheres grouped together and having the surfaces of each sphere formed into a series of longitudinal ribs or iiutngs, substantially as shown and described.
2. In a design for an inkstand, the top or cover having the appearance of a iiattened sphere, and having a series of raised intings radiating from the center ot the upper portion in compound curves and enlarging toward the circumference of the top, Where they form a series of scallops,` substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
LUCIEN B. MARTIN.
