UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAV SOEDING, ()l PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A STRENGTH-TESTER CASlNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,060, dated April 23, 1889. Application filed March 18, 1889- Serial No. 303,782 Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GUSTAV Son nine, oi. the city and county of Philadelphia, in the State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Casing for loin-Controlled Strength Testers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, form ing part hereof, in which the figure is a perspective view of the design.
This invention consists of the representa tion of a barrel or keg mounted on a standard having its upper half circular or round, with two half-round moldings, one at the bottom and the other near the top, encircling the same, and having its lower half of hexagonal shape slightly tapering from the bottom of the same, said round and hexagonal portionshaving an annular groove or concavity at their point of juncture, the bottom of the hexagonal portion terminating in an annular groove with a fillet on its lower edge, which joins a distended ogee or bell shaped bottom. Said keg is surmounted by a circular column with a flattened portion extending its whole length, said column having a top thereon with a half-round or convex rim at its base joining a hemisphere with a flattened portion on its apex having an eagle thereon.
This design will be more particularly understood upon reference being had to the.
drawing, wherein- A represents the casing, which is in the form of a beer or other keg, having the walls a, which are suitably curved and have on their outer surfaces, near each of the ends thereof and equidistant from each other, three annular or hoop-like projections, a, with depressions a between. The casing A has the heads B B, the outer surfaces of which are depressed or sunken within the lines of the edges of the walls a, which edges are bev-' eled where they join the outer surfaces 0 the heads 13 B, as shown at b. 0n the outside of the walls a are round bosses C 0, corresponding in location to the ordinary bung and of substantially the same shape. These projections are centrally located and diametrically opposite each other, the projection 0 having thereon the tube D, flattened on one side throughout its length,
as shown at a, and the projection C adjoining or contiguous to the base or standard E, which standard is at its upper half in cylindrical or round shape, as shown at e, and has thereon near its top the annular swell or ovalmolding 0'. At the lower end of this cylindrical portion 6 is another swell or oval molding, 6 which adjoins an annular groove or concavity, c", this concavity e and the convexity e forming an ogee. Extending downwardly from the edge of the annular groove e is the elongated tapering hexagonal portion 1 terminating at its lower end in an annular groove or concavity, f, similar to but larger in circumference than the upper groove, 6 The lower edge or rim of this groove f is slightly larger in circumference than the upper edge, and flares so as to correspond with the annular flattened portion or fillet f. The somewhat distended ogee portion or bell G flares at its lower edge and is flattened on its circumference, as shown at g. The upper end of the tube D terminates in a convex ment or rim, (1, which is surmounte oy a hemisphere, d, formed with a raised portion or table, (1 upon its upper portion or apex. This table at has perched thereon an eagle with its wings and tail-feathers spread as in the act of flying, as shown at H.
What I claim as my invention is- A' design for a casing for strength-testers, comprising the keg A, having on its walls a the annular hoop projections a, with the intermediate depressions, a the bevels b in the ends of said walls at their junction with the heads B B, the walls a having the projection C at their junction with the standard E, said standard having the cylindrical por tion e, with half-round encircling moldings e e thereon, the annular groove e between said portion 6 and the hexagonal portion F, the latter terminating in the annular groove f, with the fillet f on its lower edge, which joins the bell G, with the flaring bottom 9, said walls a also having the projection O at their junction with the round column D, having the fiat portion (1 throughout its length, said column having the top with the annular rim d at the junction of the column and top, and the hemisphere d, with the flat portion d having the eagle H thereon, as set forth.
In testimony that I have hereunto set my claim the foregoing I hand this 15th day of Witnesses R. DALE SPARHAWK, WILL H. POWELL.
