SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 18,500, dated August 7, 1888.

Application filed July 2, 1888. Serial No. 278,561.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, James B. BEATTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at the city of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for a Fan or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference beinghad to the accompanying illustration, forming part hereof.

The leading feature of my invention consists in a surface ornamentation, being the representation of a picture of a flag of the United States loosely thrown together, as shown, and having a plain field in the center of the picture, on which are two faces or portraits.

A represents the flag, G the plain space in the center, and D E are the portraits or faces thereonlinoverlappingcircularportraitspaces.

The effect produced is that of a flag of the United States loosely thrown together and having the two portraits in overlapping circular Term of patent 3} years.
