UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE DESIGN FOR A RAILWAY CAR BODY Frank L. Murphy and James E. Candlin, Jr., Chicago, Ill., assignors to Pullman-Standard Car Manufacturing Company, Chicago, 111., a corporation of Delaware To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, Frank L. Murphy and James E. Candlin, Jr., citizens of the United States of America and residents, respectively, of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented a new, original, and ornamental Design for Railway Car Body, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a general perspective view of a conventional railway car body of the type in which this new design is incorporated and having portions broken away to reveal the disposition of this new room arrangement within the body, and showing the supporting trucks in dotted lines for illustrative purposes only;
Fig. 2 is a general perspective view of the room arrangement in a railway car body, with parts of the body broken away better to reveal the details of our new design showing the arrangement as made up for day-time occupancy;
Fig. 3 is a plan view of the room arrangement showing the relative disposition of the various features of the new design, including a convertible sofa at one fixed end partition, a convertible seat at the opposite fixed end partition, and associated toilet annexes;
Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional View through the room arrangement taken on the plane indicated at 4-4 of Fig. 3, showing the side wall finish and the relationship of the convertible sofa-bed and associated upper berth at one side with respect to the windows, and the convertible seat-bed and associated upper berth at the other side;
Fig. 5 also is a longitudinal sectional view through the room arrangement taken on the plane indicated at 55 in Fig. 3, but illustrating the passageway partition and showing the relationship of the entrance doorways with respect to the toilet annexes and to the convertible sofabed and associated upper berth;
Fig. 6 is a transverse sectional view through the arrangement taken on the plane indicated at 6-6 in Fig, 4 showing one of the fixed end partitions, with the convertible seat-bed and associated upper berth and a toilet annex enclosure alongside thereof;
Fig. '7 also is a transverse sectional view through the room arrangement taken on the plane indicated at '!1 in Fig. 4, illustrating the fixed partition at the opposite end and showing the convertible sofa-bed and associated plane-faced upper berth in their daytime positions;
Fig. 8 is a transverse sectional view also taken on the plane indicated at 88 in Fig. 5 showing the intermediate folding partition with communicating door and the toilet annex at one side of the room and the upper and lower berths made up for nighttime occupancy at the other side, with the communicating door therebetween; and
Fig. 9 is a similar transverse sectional View taken on the plane 99 of Fig. 5, illustrating the intermediate folding partition from the side opposite to that shown in Fig. 8 and showing the entrance doorway to the toilet annex.
We claim:
The ornamental design for a railway car body, substantially as shown and described.
