UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUSTUS H. HEISEY, OF PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR GLASSWARE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,833, dated vApril 3, 1883.
Application Bled February 6, 1883. Term of patent {i} years.
To all whom 1t may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS H. HEISEY, of Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a. new and useful Improvement in a Design for Glassware; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be al'ull, clear, and exactdescription thereof.
My improved design consists in making a glass vessel-such as a sugar-bowl or similar article-of spherical form and with four plain sides, formed by cutting vertical segments from the sphere, the adjacent sides of which segments do not touch each other, so that between them is left an uncut portion of the sphere. The top and bottom of the article are left of spherical form.
To more clearly illustrate my invention I will now describe it by reference t0 the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of a sugar-bowl embodying my improved design. Fig. 2 is a vertical section. Fig. 3 is a plan view. Fig. 4 is a perspective view.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in each.
The body a and its lid b constitute a sphere having four flat sides, c, formed by cutting vertical segments from the sphere. Between the sides c is a rounded portion, d, which constitutes partof the periphery. The top b and bof.- tom e are of rounded form. This article is provided with a. suitable foot, f, and the lid with a top ornament or handle, g. The sur face of the article may be perfectly plain, as in Fig. 4, or ornamented in any desired manner, as in Fig. 1.
I do not limit myself to making tlie sphere exactly round, as it may be of a slightly longer vertical diameter than horizontal.
This design may be applied to all glass articles of pitcher, goblet, or bowl form, and I desire to claim it for such purposes.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for glassware, substantially as herein described and shown.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 3d day of February, A. D. 1883.
AUGUSTUS H. HEISEY.
