To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JAMES A. ST. JOHN, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain, residing in the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Movable Type, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying impression,forming part thereof.
The characteristics of the present font of type are the squareness of the characters, the angular outline, an outline of uniform width, and a heavy outline. The squareness has reference to the general form of most of the characters-for instance, of the letters B O D E G H O Q S U (uppercase) and the numerals 2 3 5 6 S 9 0. It is also shown in the letters of the lower case-for instance, in the letters a o c e ll] n, and in parts of letters-say the letters b (l g p q, (lower case.) The angular uniformlyheary outline is exhibited in all the characters.
The design for movable type herein shown and described, the same consisting,in combination, in the squareness of form and the angular heavy outline of uniform width.
