DESIGN FOR A GEM-SETTlNG.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,579, dated November 22, 1881. Application filed October 13, 1881. Term of patent 11; years.
To all whom it may concern Beitknown thatLWiLLIAMLEE REYNOLDS, ofthe city and county of Providence, and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Design for Gem-Settings; and I do hereby declare that the following specification, taken in connection with theaccompanyingdrawings,
forming a part of the same, is a full, clear, and
exact description thereof.
My design consists in a gem-setting of circular contour, having a central opening for the reception of a brilliant or other stone, which opening is surrounded by an inwardly and downwardly beveled border, provided with a diagonally knurled or beaded outer edge, the said border joining the side of the setting.
My design for a gem-setting is particularly adapted to those articles ofjewelry known as studs, ear-drops, scarf-pins, 85c.
Referring to the drawings, Figures 1 and 2 represent face views of the setting, respectively with and without a stone combined. Fig. 3 shows a side view of the same.
As shown in the several figures, the face of the setting is circular in contour, and is provided with a central opening, a. This opening is surrounded by a border, b, which is beveled inward and downward, as particularly shown in Fig. 3. At the outer edge, d, of the border that is, at thejunetion of said border with the side a of the setting, which side may be at right angles to the face,orslightlyinclined thereto the setting is diagonally knurled or beaded, producing a neat and ornamental eflect.
