UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE e. BATES, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A RUCHE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,650, dated February 10, 1880. Application filed December 31, 1879. Term of patent '7 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE G. BATES, of the city, county, and State of New York, have originated and produced a new and original Design for Ruches, of which the Following is a specification.
One peculiarity of my design is, that the transverse section of the ruche presents a straight band-like portion or band, from which the fluting or ru ffie projects entirely on one side, with a profile of quadrant or sector shape. Another peculiarity is, that the fluting or ruffle, projecting entirely on one side of the band or band-like portion, presents in its edge in one direction a series of sharp bends, and in the other direction a series of externallyrounded curves.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents aperspective view of a ruche of my design. Fig. 2 represents an edge view of the flutes, and Fig. 3 represents a transverse section of the ruche.
Similar letters of reference designate corresponding parts in all the figures.
A designates theband 0r straightorflat bandlike portion of the rnche, and B the fluted portion or ruffle thereof, which projects entirely on one side of the flat band-like portion or band A, as clearly illustrated in Fig. 3. The fluted portion or rufiie B thus projecting presents in its transverse section the form of a quadrant or sector of a circle, the outer ends of the flutes forming an are, as shown in Fig. 3. The flutes are shown in Fig. 2 to be so shaped that their edge presents in one direction a ruffie, B, with a series of sharp bends, a a, and in the other direction a series of outwardly-round ed curves, b b, with the intervening portions nearly straight.
I claim- 1. The design for a ruche, consisting of a straight portion or band, from which the flutes project entirely on one side in quadrant or sector shape, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
2. The design for a ruche, consisting of the tluting or ruffle projecting entirely from one side of a straight band or band-like portion, and presenting at its edge in one direction a series of sharp bends, a a, and in the other direction a series of curves, b b, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying illustration.
