Specification forming part of Design No. 11,508, dated November 11,1879; application liled October 2, 1879.
' [Terni of patent 3f?,- years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatl, F. WATEnHoUsE, of Vallingford, in the county of New Haven and Sta-te of Connecticut, have invente-d a new Design for Spoon and Fork Handles; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawing constitutes part of this specilication, and represents a face View.
This invention relates to a design for the handle of spoons, forks, and similar articles oi' table-service; and the design consists in the ornamentation of the surface of the handle, as shown in the accompanying illustration.
The outline of the handle is the same as that shown in the patent of John M. Culver, dated October 8, 1878, No. 10,859, assigned to the assignecs in this application, which consists ot a boss about midway of the length of the handle, and from which the handle gradually eX- pands to near the end, thence diagonally inward to meet a semicircular tip.
In this present invention an ornamental band runs diagonally across the handle above the boss; a tloriated branch springs from the boss and runs upon the surface, apparently behind thc band. At the intersection of the sides with the diagonal portion a beading runs across the face from angle to angle, and on the surface in each angle below is an ornamented quadrant, with a central sprig between.
Below the tip is a beading running across from angle to angle and parallel with the beading below, the space between the two beads ornamented with light tracery.
I claim- The ornamentation for spoon and fork 11andles ofthe shape shown, consisting ot' the parallel beading across the upper end from angle to angle, the ornamented quadrant in the an` gles below, all as shown in the accompanying illustration.
