Description

0907? OP 0 11.247 DESIGN,
A. GARLBWITZ. Center-Piece.
No. 11,247. Patented June 17, 879,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
AUGUST OARLEVVITZ, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR CENTER-PIECES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 11,247, dated June 17, 1879; application filed April 30, 1879. [Term of patent 7 years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUST OARLEWITZ, of the city of Newark, in the State of New Jersey, have invented and originated a new and useful Design for Composite-PlasterCenter'Piece, which has not before been known or used and I hereby declare the following to be a full and clear description thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings or photographs, and the letters marked thereon.
In the formation of plaster center-pieces for the ceilings of rooms and balls, it is the prac ticeto cast them in sections or separatepieces; and my design is calculated to be used for a large square or oblong room, or for a small square room, as will appear by the different figures of the annexed drawings or photographs.
The entire or completed center-piece, as I have designed it for use in large square rooms, is shown in Figure 1, consisting of a center, A, having formed on it, in relief, a cluster of points around the hole where the chandelierstem connects with the gas-pipe, this cluster of points being inclosed by a raised circle, a, outside of which are depressed panels b b, (four in number,) each containing sunken leaftlgures, each panel ending at its outer end in aheart-shaped figure, c. The angles formed of these four panels are filled up by other fig .ures, d d, as will also be seen by reference to Fig. 3.
On the outside of each of the four main panels of the center A, and fitting closely around the edge of these panels and the heart shaped portion, are added the sections B B when desired; but when it is intended to use my design of center-piece for an oblong room or hall, two of these outer sections or ornaments, B B, may be omitted, and the centerpiece will appear as shown at Fig. 2; and in the same manner, when a little smaller center-piece is needed, all of the outer sections may be dispensed with and only the central figure used, as it appears in Fig. 3.
I do not claim anything new in making a center-piece of plaster, in sections, and combining the parts together; but the utility of my design is the facility with which it may be adapted for use in a large or small square room, or in an oblong room, by simply leaving out certain portions, which are always cast in separate sections.
1 claim The design for plaster center-piece, as shown in the annexed photographic illustrations, either with or without the outer ornaments, B B, joined to the circumference thereof, substantially as shown and described.
AUGUST OARLE WITZ.
