DESIGN FOR A GEM-SETTING.
Specification forming part of Design No. 10,732, dated June :25, 1878; application filed June 14, 1 78. [Term of patent 3% years] To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES A. FAAS, of Wrentham,-Nortblk county, State of Massachusetts, have originated a Design for Settings for Gems, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being bad to the accompanying drawing, forming part of this specification.
In the drawing my design is shown enlarged in size.
A represents the gem, which may be cut as desired, and is mounted in the usual claw or crown, the points a of which hold the gem in position. Around the base of the claw or setting, and arranged to extend beyond the line of the rim of the gem, is a ring or plate of polished enamel. (Shown at B in the drawing.)
Projecting from underneath this plate, outwardly and upwardly around the crown or setting, are the radiating arms.
(Shown at O.)
The ends of these arms have aplane surface at right angles to the axis of the setting, and these plane ends are polished, so as to be lustrous, and are shown at c. The arms and crown are to be of gold or similar lustrous metal, and the color of the enamel ring should be suitable and in harmony with the hue of the gem which the setting contains.
What I claim as my invention is- The design for a gem-setting composed of the polished enamel plate B, and radiating arms 0, having the plane polished ends a, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying drawing.
