Be it known that I, RIDNER P. CAFFERTY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Safety- R azors, of which the following is a speci fication.

My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in safety razors, and has for its object to provide a simple construction which will effectually accomplish the result aimed at, in allowing for the adjustment of the blade relative to the guard fingers, and to prevent the blade from turning upon the guard.

Vith these ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated in the claims.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by letter to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of my improved safety razor. In carrying out my invention as here em bodied, A represents the hollow handle, which has formed therewith or attached thereto the guard B, and this guard is bow shaped, as clearly shown in Fig. 2, and has formed therewith the fingers C and the spring sections D.

E is the adjusting rod, having one side thereof flattened, as indicated at F, and this rod is adapted to slide in the handle, but is prevented from turning by the flattened portion F, as will be readily underst d.

The blade G is adapted to rest upon the spring sections D, and has a hole therethrough for thepassage of the rod E, said rod having a head H, which bears upon the outer surface of the blade, thus providing for holding said blade in place.

In order that the blade may be securely held against any tendency to rotate when being adjusted, or in use, I provide the lugs M, which project upward from the guard and between which the blade snugly By the construction above described it will be seen that the blade primarily rests upon the spring sections D and these sections are so bent that they normally lie above the plane of the fingers C, so that in drawing the blade inward toward the guard, a greater or less cutting adjustment is provided according to the degree to which the spring sections are compressed by the blade forcing them inward, and this adjustment may be continued until the blade comes in firm contact with the fingers.

Ofv course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction here shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention, What I claim as new and useful is 1. As a new article of manufacture, a safety razor comprising a hollow handle, a guard having fingers and four spring sections formed thereon, a blade bearing upon the spring sections, an adjusting rod having one side thereof flattened and passing through the'blade and into the hollow handle, and an adjusting bolt threaded into the adjusting rod.

In a safety razor, the combination of a hollow handle, a guard, fingers formed upon said guard, spring sections also formed upon the guard, lugs projecting outward from the guard, a blade fitting between the lugs bearing upon the spring sections, an adjusting rod having one side thereof fiattened and having a head formed thereon,
