HAROLD W. EDEN, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO RAPHAEL HERMAN AND SAMUEL J. HERMAN, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
RAZOR-BLADE HOLDER.
Application filed October 9,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HAROLD IV. EDEN, citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Vayne, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Razor-Blade Holders, and declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to razor blade holders.
It has for its object an improved adjustable head adapted to hold a thin rectangular cutting blade, a blade seat on which said blade rests, and an actuating member adapted to move said blade and its supporting tablet. The head is pivoted and is arranged to hold the blade at any angle with respect to the handle and to adjust an angle quickly with the single hand used in holding the implement.
In the drawings :Figure 1, is a longitudinal section of the handle with the blade set at an acute angle to the axis thereof. Fig. 2, is a longitudinal section with the blade set at right angles to the axis thereof. Fig. 3, is an elevation of the blade-holding head and of the handle showing the adjustment slot.
The blade-holding head 1 is pivotally secured to the handle 2, which handle is hollow and provided with a notched slot 3 along one side thereof; a link 41 is pivotally connected to the head eccent-rically to the pivot 5, on which the head turns, and is provided with a terminal button 6 that projects through the slot 3. The stem of the button has a prismatic portion adapted to engage in the notches along the side of the slot, and with a smaller or neck portion 7 adapted to pass through the narrower portion of the slot 71 between the notches. The button 6 terminates on its projecting end with an enlargement to be engaged by the thumb of the user, and to the inner end of Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1, 1911.
1909. Serial No. 521,792.
the button is secured a spring 8 that presses against the opposite side of the tubular handle. The operator, grasping the handle 2 in the hand, can readily press the button inward until the neck 7 is between the walls of the slot, and when in this position the button can be adjusted along the slot in any desired position, and this adjustment swings the head 1 on its pin 5, adjusting the angle of the cutting blade 10 which is carried by the head 1 between the guard member 11 and the adjusting plate 12 to any desired angle.
What I claim is:
1. In a safety razor, in combination with a tubular handle having a longitudinally extending slot of alternatingly great and small breadth, a head pivoted to said slotted end of the handle, whereby its angular relation thereto may be varied, a holding link pivotally attached at one end to said head and, having its unpivoted end slidably engaging through said slot in the handle, and a spring within said handle, yieldingly engaging against the unpivoted end of said link, whereby said link may be removably held in one of the several broad portions of the slot in the handle, thereby determining the angular position of said head with respect to the handle, substantially as described.
2. A safety razor, having, in combination with a handle in one end of whose side wall is a slot of alternating relatively narrow and wide extent, a head pivotally connected to the end of the handle adjacent said slot therein, a holding link pivotally connected at one end with the head, and adapted to adjustably engage with its other end through said slot, and a spring member engaging thereagainst, whereby the free end of the link is adjustably held in some one of the wider portions of said slot in the handle, thereby adjustably holding the head in position accordingly, substantially as described.
3. In a safety razor, in combination with a handle having a slot near one end, a head pivoted thereto adjacent said slotted end, a
blade guard supported by said head, an adjusting link attached at one end to said head ecoentrioally to the point of pivoting g thereof, the other end of said link engaging through the slotted portion of the handle, and spring means for yieldingly holding said link in any one of a variety of positions in the slot, thereby fixing the angularity of the head With respect to the handle, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof, I sign this specification in the presence of two Witnesses. HAROLD W. EDEN.
