To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NELSON HUGHES, residing at Portland, in the county of Multnomah and State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Draw-Gages and Cutters, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in draw gages and leather cutters and the like and it primarily has for its object to provide a device of this character that wholly obliterates the chances of destroying, the accuracyy of the gage through grinding of the knife by dierent operators. 4
My invention also has for its object to provide a knife .blade of the largest possible cutting edge capacity, thus performing more work with each grinding.
My invention also has for its object to provide a gage and cutter which will have an increased range of Work and in which the parts are so arranged and combined as to be easily controllable and operable and will eiectively serve its intended purposes.
Generically, my invention comprises a l body provided with a hand gripping portion which body portion includes a clamping device for clamping a gage and a cutter carrying bar to hold them in their respective positions and finger engaging means for operating the clamping mechanism to secure and release the bars as occasion may require. A cutter and a disk gage are carried by the cutter bar and gage bar respectively and serve to co-act in cutting the leather.
In its more subordinate nature, my invention comprises certain novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, all of which will be first described in detail and then be specifically pointed out in the appended claims, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 4, is a detail perspective view of the trigger mechanism. Fig. 5, is a detail section and elevation of the rotary cutter and the gage or shearing disk which coperates therewith.
Referring now to the accompanying drawings in which like letters and numerals of reference indicate like parts in all of the figures, l represents the body member which an eye bolt 7 which projects through the head 2 and receives an adjusting nut 8,.
Within the chamber 1 of the body portion l of my device, the eye bolt 7 projects and has its eye portion 7a held in coperative relation to the eccentric pin 9b of the trigger member 9, the pin 19b projecting through the eye portion 7a and being held by a groove bearing that is providedwith an annular groove 9C, as shown, and the bearing 9l is of cylindrical form and projects through an aperture in the lower wall of the body member 1, it being held in place by a screw 10 that passes through the body l and lies in the groove 9".

In the practical o eration and use of my invention,- the gage ar 3 is first set to the desired distance from the body l and the knife bar 5 corres ondingly adjusted so that the knife 6 and dis i 4 will engage one another, as indicated in Fig. 5, after which, the trgger member 9 is turned from the dotted position shown in Fig. 3 to the position shown in Fig. 2 and thus draws up on the head 2 bringing it tightly against the head 1a to clamp the bars 3 and 5.
While the construction illustrated in the From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, it is thought the complete construction, operation and many advantages of my invention will be readily understood by those skilled in the art to which the invention appertains.

8. The combination with a body member having a clamp head. and a clamp block co` 'operating therewith, rods passing between said clamp head and clamp block, means carried by the body member and projecting through the clamp head and block for drawing the clamp block against the clamp head.
4. The combination with a body member having a clamp head and a clamp block cooperating therewith, rods passing between said clamp head and clamp block, means carried by the body member and projecting through the clamp head and block for drawing the clamp block against the clamp head, said means comprising an eye bolt passing through the clamp head and block and a trigger member carried by the body portion and having an eccentric pin projecting through the eye of the eye bolt.
5. The combination with a body member having a clamp head and a clamp block coperating therewith, rods assing between said clamp head and clamp IIdlock, means carried by the body member and projected through the clamp head and block for drawing the clamp block against the clamp head, said means comprising an eye bolt passing through the clamp `head and block, and a trigger member carried by the body portion' and having an eccentric pin projecting through the eye of the eye bolt, and cutting mechanism carried by said bars.
6. In a device of the class described, a
body member having an internal chamber and a clam head, a clamp block cooperating with said cliamp head, means carried by the body portion and projecting through said clamp block for securing the clamp block against the clamp head, means clamped between said clamp block andsaid clamp head, and clamp engaging means for coperating with said clamping means to operate the same.
7. A device of the class described, compris ign a body portion provided with a chamber, a handle secured to said body ortion and forming a closure for one end o said chamber, said body portion having an aperture in one of its walls, a trigger member having a cylindrical pivot portion projecting through said aperture, means cooperating with said cylindrical portion and the body member for holding said trigger member in position, a clam head formed with said body portion and orming a closure for the other end of its chamber, a clamp block co erating with said clamp head, a rod olampe between said clamp head and clamp bloc i, means coperating with said trigger member and said clamp block for securing the same against the clam head. i
8. A evice of the class described, coniprising a body portion provided with a chamber, a handle secured to said body portion, and forming a closure for one end of said chamber, said body portion having an aper-A ture in one of its walls, a trigger member having a cylindrical pivot portion projecting through said aperture, means co erating with said cylindrical portion and t e body member for holding said trigger member in position, a clamp head formed with said body portion and forming a closure for the other end of its chamber, a clamp block coperat-` ing with said clamp head, a rod clamped between said clamp head and clamp block, mean's coperating with said trigger member andsaid clamp block for securing the same against the clamp head, a second rod clamped between said clamp rod and clamp head and coperative means carried by said rods for acting upon the material to be operated upon.
