I wum woz wi/twao o ao WILLIAM A. FIELD, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
SQUEEGEE-HEAD.
Specification of Letterslatent.
Patented Aug. 1, rear.
Application filed April 18, 1910. Serial No. 556,266.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. FIELD, a citizen of the United States, residin at Chicago, in the county of Cook and tate of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Squeegee-Heads; and do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. I
This invention relates to an improved I squeegee head.
The object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed, light, durable head of this class in which the squeegee or other object to be supported is securely held and may be quickly removed when desired.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a squeegee head constructed in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse sectional view thereof.
In the embodiment illustrated the head 1 is preferably constructed of twosheet metal clamping jaws 2 and 3 hingedly connected along one edge thereof, said connected edges being preferably rolled and fitting one within the other to provide a suitable hinge connection the rolled edge of one jaw being slidable longitudinally within the other to provide for the ready connection and dis-- connection of the members. The rolled edge 4 of the member 2 is simply turned laterally and then inwardly while the rolled edge 5 of the member 3 is offset from the body portion thereof and this roll 5 is fitted within the roll 4 of the other member as shown clearly in Fig. 2 whereby the inner face of said member 3 is spaced laterally from the inner face of member 2. These members 2 and 3 are each folded longitudinally intermediately of their width and the inturned portion 6 of the member 1 has its edge bent laterally outward at right angles thereto to form a spacing member 7 to limit the movement of the body portions of the two members toward each other and to serve as a fulcrum therefor. The inturned portion 8 of the member 3 reinforces the door 2-and is provided near the fold therein witha longitudinally extending corrugation forming a laterally projecting rib 9 on the inner face of the jaw 3 designed to engage the rubber strip or squeegee 10 when the jaws are forced toward each other and securely hold said strip against lateral movement. A plurality of longitudinally spaced bolts as 11 extend through registering apertures as 12 in the two jaws near their free edges, being spaced a suflicient distance from the free edges of said jaws to provide for the insertion of the squeegee between the jaws, said bolts servingas stops for limiting the rearward movement of the squeegee. The threaded ends of the bolts 11 are provided with winged nuts as 13 operable to tighten or loosen the jaws as desired. A socket member 14: is secured to the outer face of the member 2 and is preferably arranged obliquely to receive a handle.
In the use of this head 1, great economy of time is effected in reversing or removing the squeegee, as it is only necessary to loosen the winged nuts, remove the squeegee insert another and again tighten up the nuts, and should one jaw become worn or broken,it is necessary only to remove the nuts 13 and disconnect the defective jaw from the other and supply a new one which may be readily accomplished in the manner above described.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention willbe readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
I claim as my invention A squeegee .head comprising jaws with portions of their length folded over and contacting with other portions of their length, one of the folds having a longitudinal rib struck upwardly therefrom, the
fold of the other jaw having its inner end bent at right angles therewith and adapted to contact with the first mentioned fold so as to space the two jaws apart and limit the movement of the same toward each other, said right angular bend also providing a fulcrum for the jaws, the rear ends of each of the two jaws being rolled to provide hinge joints of difierent diameters so as to permit of one roll being slidably and de- Q i 999,442 Y taehably conrlected to the other roll, each pf In testimony whereof I have herepnto set sald jaws vhaving; a plqrality of registering my hand in presence of two subscrlblng w1topenmgs therem, bolts mserted in said opennesses.
ings, thumb nuts on said bolts, said bolts WILLIAM A. FIELD. 5 adapted to limit the'rearward mevement of Witnesses:
the squeegee, and one of said jaws haying a J OHN P. CUMMINGS,
